Make: Cotton Coaster

I am proud to say that I finally found a suitable summer yarn craft. There’s not too much to say about this other than it’s a coaster–and I love it. Being my first and only attempt at this, I’ll admit it’s a tad bit sketchy, but I feel as though the imperfections add a little something.

I could very easily be roped into buying a coaster like this at Anthropologie–imperfections and all. I actually intended the plastic stitching disks (do you like that oh-so-technical name I just came up with?) to be earring storage, which also worked very well. But with the leftovers, I give you this coaster.

Materials:

  • Cotton yarn (I used Lily brand ‘Sugar ‘n Cream’) in two colours
  • Plastic canvas (the actual name)
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle

Instructions:

This is super simple craft. Below is a photo with the stitch I used all the way around, sometimes doubling up in spots to accommodate the decrease. After eye-balling it in some places and winging it in others, I was left with the finished coaster. It’s not anything spectacular, but it looks shabby chic and does the job!

Happy making!
