Crochet: Nautical Granny

I have this not-so-secret ambition to crochet myself a blanket. I say not-so-secret because I will tell anyone who will listen. Most roll their eyes because I’m not so good at committing to long-term projects. I see granny squares as a happy medium. When I feel like creating something small, I can always crochet myself a granny square or two. In time I’ll be left with a wicked blanket, right? Maybe.

The very name of “granny square” almost put me off, but I’m actually extremely intrigued by the possibilities of this technique. Squares, hexagons, triangles: oh the shapes! Ok, I don’t know if triangles are possible, but you’ll see a post if I find out. This is still a work in progress, so if I finish I can reward myself with a celebratory blog entry.

I like to call this particular project Nautical Granny. My hipster sensibilities tell me that I should keep my projects as themed as possible. With that said, this is my first shot at a blanket. From here on out, things are about to get crazy.
